Wanted to start a new thread about how everyone did at the tourney on the weekend.
Did everyone have fun, good games, any problems with opponents, any ideas for new lists etc etc.
I know there was alot of issues with players playing eachother from here, which no one is happy with in the end. Considering we were 1/4 of the field i think we did pretty well.
Props to all the guys who went to this as their first event, and a big shout out to Justin who cracked top 10!
I will post my own thoughts later today.

I definitely liked the overall experience at the tournament. Thanks Bailey for the comment, I made 7th place which was pretty amazing! Overall the games went well and most opponents were pretty great guys. Only player I didn't enjoy fighting right from the get go was the elder player with forge world and bikes with ob sec. He basically bounced in and out of line of sight blocking terrain. Also I wish that there was a bit more time for lunch break as we never really got one the first day lol. Definitely happy with my experience though and I would go again

Yea I had the same experience with eldar, I'm seeing now why eldar players tend to demand line of sight blocking terrain. My game would have went WAY different if those damn jet bikes couldn't hide like cowards every turn! All in all though I had a great time!

So now I got some time at work, have processed the weekend, here's where I'm at.
Still super proud of everyone that went, specially since this was the first time for many of you to do a road trip tournament. Between the game schedule, nerves at new opponents and lists, and the fear of the unknown (worried that ever player is an asshole) etc etc. As I said, at an event this size, you will see prolly 2 or 3 douchebag players, and as far as I can tell, only Iain played at least one lol.
On my own end this was my worst tournament showing in terms of placement, like ever lol. Going back as far as 3rd I've always managed top half, if not top 10, but I knew going in that the KDK list I was bringing was far from optimized and wasn't in it for the placement haul anyway. However, my wins were all big and my losses just as devastating lol. Lost to Eldar, Necrons and Tau, some of the big boys in the meta right now, learned a lot about some changes that I can make as well as how to play against them better. And as long as you can take something away from your losses, instead of excuses, than its not a waste of time.
Player wise I had no issues with any opponent, everyone had a cool easy going demeanor, even the players who are at that higher level of play, still had a good attitude about everything, which is nice to see. Gandal with Chaos, our own Justin with War Convo, the Frenchman with Eldar, Andrew with Necrons, Chris with Tau and Mike with Swolves were all great guys, had no real rules issues, anything we needed a judge for was more clarification, and I was always right heheh.
Only issues i had were small, and mostly event based. Never a fan of paying for parking on top of registration, not sure how many passes the organizers were given but none of them made it to the 40k players. Venue was nice and big, but with the other systems running, especially Warmachine, space was an issue. No side boards for models or books, and little room between rows meant i went ass to ass with more guys than i care to admit lol. Timeline wise i would have preferred starting at 8 in the morning with more time for lunch, rather than 9, i know second day i had very little time to eat and i think some of you had the same issue day 1.
All in all a great time for me anyway, if anyone had any issues or constructive criticism let me know and i will deff carry it on to the organizers.

Regarding the eldar player with FW, I've played him in a previous tournament. He didn't strike me as a good player, he just runs netlists and does what you guys said, jump out-shoot-jump-back. Super lame to play against, and will will never do better than mid-ranking since his list hard-counters some opponents but in turn is hard-countered by drop pod armies, but nonetheless it is frustrating. Most tournament Tau armies do a similar strat, which is why they are top of my hate-list. My next tourney list will have some pods because I need something that can reliably get into my opponent's deployment zone early to counter some of the ITC objectives.

From the organizers point of view, all of these are fully valid points.
Ass room will definitely be corrected for next year. Grotscon will be increasing their square footage another 50%.
They did not expect me to nearly take up half the venue as in the past, they have only had 8-10 people in the 40k events.
the 9:00 start was due to being sat between 2 major cities within driving distance. I made the 9:00 start to allow for people to drive from home in either city and not have to wake up too terribly early.
And the selfish part in me also wanted to sleep in a bit on a Saturday and Sunday to be honest. I can correct this to 8:00 am in the next event.
The quick lunch was quick. No question. I was trying to get everyone out at a reasonable time in the evening to attend other functions going on, or leave because of a major drive ahead of them.
Other things people have added from other avenues, are the game length.
People want to see 3 hour rounds per game. If an event was going to end later (7:00 or 8:00) to allow for more time for lunch and extended games, is this something you guys would like to see?
I sincerely apologize about matching you guys up against each other. I will attempt to make a better effort at making sure you guys don't get sat against each other. I was using a program to randomly generate match ups as to avoid anyone from points counting and anticipating match ups. I have a major issue with point counting and anticipating match ups, so I needed to nip that shit in the bud.
in terms of ranking, Justin beat out Dave Rowland due to his painting score, as their generalship points were exactly the same, and their sportsmanship votes were exactly the same.
Thank you very much for coming out guys. I really appreciate the support you guys showed, and how you guys handled all your games.

Absolutely agree with Bailey on his points. I haven't been to a major event since conflict Calgary and this was far less stressful and relaxed than that. I appreciate that. Makes a guy like me with several anxiety issues want to come back. Thanks for the great event.
On a personal note, my renegades did far better than expected. This is not a competitive list and doesn't start rolling till turn 4+ which I rarely made it to. I'll have to improve my short game for next year. Chimeras and deepstrike would have been very helpful.
Way to go Justin now I'm really looking forward to a rematch.

I felt like a monster after I realized I put both renegades players against each other on the Purge the Alien mission.
You guys were troopers!
Thank you for the kind words Mr. Sands, I would be more than happy to have you at any event I run!
