So after day one. I am somehow in first. Sean B is top middle of the pack and Andrew is not far behind him. Don't know how as my list isn't very tough just dark horse this shit for now. Tomorrow is the real hard line for position. Wish us luck.

Also: details. What were your lists, what did you play against, etc. Gotta live vicariously.

Well it wasn't too bad a time, it could have been better hehe.
OP is an event with all custom missions, each table is unique and different. The glaring problem is the organizers aren't 40k players, and the people they use to test missions were there and playing, so there was some issues there. Plus the write ups themselves were poorly done and confusing, deffinatly just cobbled together. Also it was quite apparent there was some shenanigry afoot with pairings, rules decisions and so forth.
The event has some great door prizes and raffles though, I ended up with a Dark Elf Assasin model, while Andrew won an Imperial knight, so we still took some things home. There was a problem with prizes though too, out of the 6 or 7 raffles, one guy took home like 4 or 5 of them. Now that's great if your that guy, but other wise I would like to have seen him have the option to keep the new prize and redraw for the previous one. I would have liked to have taken something more substantial home.
We all took remarkably different lists, but a lot of the custom scenario's deffinatly hampered a lot of armies and list types. One example is 'Immortal Kombat' where you pick characters to fight in combat before each game turn, this is the main way to get VPs to win the mission. But if you run wargear or combat light like my list, your at a serious disadvantage and cannot win. That happened with 3 of the 5 games I played.
Fortuneatly 4 of the players I played against were great opponents, and even in defeat I had a decent time, I had to, there was no way I could win them. My first game was against someone I played there last year and humiliated. With knowledge of all the missions, and a custom made army for the majority of them, he pretty much cleaned my clock this time around, left me with some feel badsies. Not for the loss, or the loss against him, but because of the way the mission was structured, I had no chance.
Like I said, overall it was a decent experience, pretty sure Iain was a sliver away from getting best general, had by far the best showing with 4-1 and a good amount of extra points earned. Andrew achieved his personal goal of completing 5/5 secret obejctives (cards you could play to earn more pts) but I doubt I will place higher than last year (5th).

Also the guy that play tested and build his list for most of the missions I beat down in my final one. And if bailey had checked his points right against the guy who got first for general I would of taken it. The custom scenarios were great buy needed work. The ones that have been used before from years past were decently written as they have been tweaked over the years the new ones were in serious need of editing. The organizers needed to enforce the rules they set out like no fortifications and paint standards. Also sportsman ship needs tweaking as it allowed a sour person to zero bomb because they lost or weren't allowed to go back and correct themselves when they messed up the rules. I would love to see us run a similar event here with invite to guys from out of town. Invite as some of them are easily play to win at all costs etc.
